CABO PROJECT
CHALLENGE
My client’s magnificent holiday home in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, included an 8’ square atrium, open at the top. The atrium was located in the center of the home and was thus an important focal point. Several different plantscape professionals had made attempts at creating living walls in this space but none served to enhance the space and only disappointed the client. After losing money with each unsuccessful attempt she contacted me.
SOLUTION
There is nothing like the thrill of a new space and exploring possibilities! I first spent time with my client to fully understand her aesthetics, what she envisioned for the space, and the holistic design of the home. I shared with her my understanding of why the previous designs did not fulfill expectations and provided new design options.
It is only within recent years that major inroads have been made with artificial succulents, allowing designers to now create exciting designs with what appear to be live plants. The synergy of fabulous designs and the elimination of plant maintenance and replacement costs have made my artificial succulent walls particularly popular!
For this project, I designed three 6’ x 5’ panels of varying artificial succulents and shipped them in custom-designed crates. My client insisted that I oversee the installation and, well frankly, I love Mexico so I was most pleased to oblige. As you can see from the photos, the panels were installed together, creating a seamless and exhilarating 18’ x 5’ artificial succulent wall “alive” with vibrant color and texture. As much as I love designing, my greatest thrill is seeing my clients happy. She loved it!
